The finally reboot you XPS12 and viola - it works again. So go ahead and do the normal installation of the driver, this time pretend not knowing that you have already force-installed the 64-bit driver.

After "successful" installation and reboot, you still have to install the driver the normal way, as if nothing had been done previously.
Browse your way into the 圆4 folder mentioned above, and select the file named cymfltr.inf which you then accept and install. Then Chose "Browse My Computer." followed by "Let me pick." and then click the "Have Disk" button. If I install the Cypress Trackpad driver for Windows 8.1 through the Dell support page for my model, it doesnt work properly and it floods my 'Event Viewer' with errors. It currently works very well except for one key feature. Right-click on it and select "Update Driver". I have an XPS 12 (9Q23, Late 2012) and I update it to Windows 10 Technical Preview almost a year ago. Now, launch Device Manager and locate the PS/2 Mouse device. Unpack all its content to the folder: \ProgramData\Dell\drivers\9q23_Input_Driver_HW5M1_WN_2.5.1.65_A01 After successful unpack, you'll find a folder named Cypress\Win81\圆4 which contains everything you need. You do this by launching the program and then choose Unpack from the menu instead of install. Then unpack the driver instead of installing it.

Then download the Windows 8.1 driver from the Dell Drivers page, version 2.5.1.65 A01 (The Windows 10 driver fails to work). You should eventually end up with a plain PS/2 Mouse driver which will make the trackpad work basically, without the tapping feature (and all other fancy features) If it is, uninstall it also from the device manager and then reboot. Then after reboot, check device manager to see if the old Cypress driver is still resident. Uninstall whatever trackpad driver you may already have installed, using the App uninstall feature under WIndows Setting. Upgrading to Windows 10 october 1809 version bricked the trackpad at first - which was very sad.
After weeks, days and countless hours of struggeling, I finally made the trackpad on my Dell XPS 12 work again.
